Speedier driving permitted as of May 1 in Latvia

From May 1, increased permitted driving speed will be introduced in certain sections of the main roads of the country, the state LLC “Latvian State Roads” (LVC) said.

It is planned to increase the maximum permitted speed to 110 kilometers per hour (km/h) in the section of Jurmala Highway (A10) from Rīga to Jurmala.

Speeds up to 100 km/h will be allowed in three sections:

Daugavpils Highway (A6) from Salaspils to Ikšķile (km 19.65-28.30);

The section of the Tīnūži-Koknese Highway (P80) from Ogresgals to Koknese (km 5.20-60.35);

Jelgava Highway (A8) from Riga to Jaunolaine (km 9.98-18.96).

There will be no increase in the maximum permitted speed on the Saulkrasti bypass section of the Tallinas Highway (A1) (21.40 to 26.02 km) as the number of road accidents on it increased by 58% last year compared to 2022.

On the Vidzemes Highway (A2) section from Langstiņi to Sigulda, where electronic road signs operate, from April 15 the maximum permitted driving speed in favorable conditions is up to 110 km/h.

In the absence of any information on the variable information road signs, the maximum permitted speed shall be 90 km/h outside populated areas and a speed corresponding to the specific weather and/or road situation shall be chosen.
