IT’S A ROUGH LIFE OUT HERE. BUT YEAH, THIS IS GOING TO BE THE WORLD’S LARGEST CHOCOLATE AND COFFEE FESTIVAL. IT’S HERE IN ALBUQUERQUE THIS WEEKEND. JOINING ME RIGHT NOW IS DEAN STROBER. HE’S THE PRODUCER OF THE FESTIVAL. SO DEAN, FIRST TELL ME WHY THIS FESTIVAL IS SO SPECIAL. WELL, IT BRINGS IN 200 VENDORS WHO COME IN FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, FROM NICARAGUA, ECUADOR. CERTAINLY SOME LOCAL FAVORITES ARE HERE AS WELL, BUT FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY THEY’RE BRINGING IN SOME OF THE FINEST, MOST AWARD WINNING CHOCOLATES AND COFFEES AND AND TREATS AND SWEETS RIGHT HERE IN ALBUQUERQUE. AND WHY DO THEY COME HERE TO ALBUQUERQUE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD? EVERY YEAR THEY TELL ME, BECAUSE WE HAVE THE NICEST PEOPLE, LIKE THE COMMUNITY SHOWS UP, THEY SUPPORT, THEY SAMPLE, THEY SHOP, AND THEY TAKE ALL THESE GREAT THINGS HOME WITH THEM TO SHARE WITH THEIR FRIENDS. AND THEN YOU JUST TOLD ME THAT IT’S REALLY ALSO ABOUT LEARNING ABOUT CHOCOLATE AND COFFEE AS WELL. YES. SO YOU MEET THE MAKERS, SO YOU LEARN HOW IT’S MADE. I MEAN, THIS IS AN ACTUAL CACAO POD. SO DURING THE FESTIVAL, WE’LL CRACK THESE OPEN AND YOU COULD LEARN HOW CHOCOLATE IS MADE, HOW COFFEE IS PROCESSED AND FERMENTED AND, AND YOU GET TO TASTE ALONG THE WAY. AWESOME. YEAH. Vendors from countries such as Thailand, Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Hawaii participate each year, drawn by the passionate community the festival attracts.Attendees can look forward to hands-on classes and tastings throughout the weekend. Although there may be some rainy weather, the co-producer of the event suggests that it’s the perfect time to enjoy coffee and chocolate indoors.
