TWO MEN will be driving more than 2,000 miles in a car that cost less than a ticket to Dubai in memory of a friend.

Kevin Paskin from Worcester and Simon Lewis from Gloucester will be taking part in a British Bangers road trip to Benidorm in a car that cost £390, but the duo are confident they will make it.

The pair both work for Domestic Appliance Distributions (DAD) and are taking part in memory of a friend and colleague who recently passed away.

A fundraiser is being held at the Berkeley Arms in St John's today (April 6) and more than £1,000 has been raised so far for their chosen charities, St Richard's Hospice and Winston's Wish.

Kevin Paskin said: "We're doing the banger rally to Benidorm on May 4 and today (April 6) we are just having a fundraiser.

"We have a raffle, karaoke, a couple of things are going to be auctioned off and we have street food in the car park.

"This is the second time I've done something like this. I did this with the same people in 2017 but we did a different route.

"We are looking forward to it. We are just hoping our £390 car will get us there.

"I have chosen to support St Richard's Hospice because my partner passed away six years ago and they looked after her in her final days so we've done a few things for them now.

"We also chose Winston's Wish because one of our colleagues, Terry, died not long ago in November and that was his chosen charity so we are doing it in memory of him as well. We have also named the car after him, El Tel.

"We both work for DAD, Terry was a driver and a very good friend to us."

The trip is expected to take five days and the pair will be passing through Luxembourg, Switzerland, France and Andorra before finishing in Spain.

The duo, who are both in their 50s, are confident the car will make it but said there is a 'no man left behind policy' and they will make it to Benidorm even if the car does not.

Starting from Worcester, the pair will drive down to Dover on Sunday, May 4 and have already had a test run to make sure the car is working.

The car will stay in Benidorm and be scraped before the pair head back via air-travel.

Mr Paskin added: "I think so far we have raised around £1,000 but we still have a month to go.

"It's still early days but we are expecting a busy afternoon.

"Obviously, we are going to have a lot of fun in what we do and if we raise a bit of money for the charities along the way it will be all well and good.

"It's a self-funding banger rally and so everything is paid for by us and anything donated goes straight to the charities.

"I'm from Worcester and this is my local pub. Beverley is fantastic. What she does for St Richard's is amazing. She has really put herself out for us today and done a lot of organising behind the scenes .

"We'd just like to thank DAD and everyone who has supported us so far, it means so much."
