Attorney for teacher charged in child ethanol poisoning case files motion asking if she can go on a trip to the Bahamas
Court records show Tracy Walker’s attorney filed a motion asking the court to let her go on a six-day trip outside of the United States.
MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The attorney for the Mobile County teacher accused of giving her student a drink containing ethanol is asking the court for a unique request.
Court records show Tracy Walker’s attorney filed a motion asking the judge to let her go on a six-day, pre-paid and pre-scheduled trip to the Bahamas in July.
Her attorney argues the trip was scheduled and paid for prior to Walker’s arrest and that Walker ‘has retained counsel and is not a flight risk nor a danger to the community.’
The motion request is as follows:
- That the Defendant and her family have a prescheduled/pre-paid trip to the Bahamas from July 26, 2025, through July 31, 2025.
- That the trip was scheduled and paid for prior to the present criminal charge.
- That despite the seriousness of the allegations, the Defendant is presumed innocent of the charge.
- That the Defendant has retained counsel and is not a flight risk nor a danger to the community.
- That the Defendant’s bonding company, Bama Bonds, has no objection to the Defendant traveling outside of the United States.
- That the Bahamas has an extradition treaty with the United States, as long as the charge is a crime in both countries and carries a potential jail sentence of over one year, as does the current charge provide.
- That the Defendant is able and willing to provide a detailed itinerary to this Honorable Court and to Pre-trial services at Community Corrections if requested.
Currently, Walker is on administrative leave from Mobile County Public Schools.
In April, the parents of a four-year-old Collins-Rhodes Elementary School student said their daughter got really sick after ingesting ethanol. Doctors determined that the girl had a blood alcohol content roughly 3½ times the legal driving limit, according to court records.
Walker was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse in the case. Walker later pleaded not guilty and remains free on a $25,000 bond. As a condition of bail, she must submit to drug and alcohol testing.
FOX10 News has reached out to Walker’s attorney for comment. We’re still awaiting a reply.
Court records show a motion hearing has been set for Walker on June 25 where the judge will determine whether or not she can go on her trip.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Walker on August 18.
